Let me take back a few decades when Akasuki Oye, a Japanese communist in exile living in Ghana was fighting for the liberation of an island called ‘Aruba’ from the Netherlands.
There he met Isabella Rodríguez, born of Spanish parents, a Mexican journalist who was in charge of BBC Asia Pacific specializing in Sri Lanka & India’s relations regarding the Tamil Sinhalese war. These two met during Anna Andolan and fell in love and got married.
On the honeymoon night, Akasuki offered Banarasi Paan and asked Isabella about her wishes. She said though she was Christian by birth, she wanted to embrace Sikhism. Listening to this Akasuki took his shirt off, leaned romantically towards Isabella, and started singing “Dil da maamla hai dilbhar”
She didn’t take a split second to give back by dropping her pink silk nightie with Kathiyawadi embroidery, and dancing to “Ho jaayegi balle balle” by respected Daler Mehandi.
Just after returning from their Honeymoon, Isabella told Akasuki that she was pregnant. “William Singh is the name I thought if it’s a boy,” Akasuki said.
So was it. Time flies. Isabella who once was a half journalist is now an owner of a Kaka Transport Company, Akasuki is a waiter in an Italian restaurant, "Sonia da Dhaba".
Their love is still unparalleled.
